My Life as a Caribbean Galley Slave!

My Life as a Caribbean Galley Slave!

The picture is very similar to one that hung on the bulletin board of my office for four months while I planned my escape from corporate America, I was 24 years old. I cashed my $1,600 IRS refund check, piled all my stuff in my parent’s garage, threw on my new backpack, and headed off on a grand adventure…

Food For Lovers

Food For Lovers

Ok lovers, its time to consider how to use food to get your significant other in the mood. Top notch libidos and goofy smiles are just one romantic meal away and the fare is far simpler than you might think.

You Say Crouton, I Say Toast

You Say Crouton, I Say Toast

Today, I had an unexpected culinary surprise, all because of a very well prepared piece of toast.

Ain't Nothin' Like a Good Breakfast Joint

Ain't Nothin' Like a Good Breakfast Joint

I’m a lunch & dinner kind of gal, and I’m not a real fan of breakfast foods. So, what the heck is it about the Saturday morning feast that changes the whole paradigm?

What a Crock!

What a Crock!

That's right.  The old crock pot is back!  The only difference being that the kitchen tool producers slapped a shiny new surface on it and renamed it the Slow Cooker.  A new name, what ever for?

DOD with Julie & Katie: BBQ in Gilbert

You are missing some Flash content that should appear here! Perhaps your browser cannot display it, or maybe it did not initialize correctly.

For this Dining on a Dime, we chose a popular little BBQ spot on the east side of town called Joe’s Real BBQ. Julie thought it would be a great place to go since she had eaten there several times in the past and knew that Joe’s BBQ is for real! The family owned joint makes you feel like you’re stepping back in time to when Gilbert was first established way back in 1995 (ok, maybe a bit further back, lol) especially with the huge John Deere tractor in the dining area.

We both ordered a half slab of ribs which comes with your choice of one side. Katie got potato salad while Julie had their cheesy potatoes. We most definitely couldn’t pass up a cup of their home-made root beer or the pecan brownie.

Note to self: When dining at Joe’s, do not wear white (like Katie did). They give you wet naps for a reason, but they should probably give out bibs too.

All we can say is gettin’ a little messy is worth it for these ribs!  They are perfection. Their claim to fame is cooking their ribs over pecan wood, which makes a big difference, while the BBQ sauce is one of the best we’ve had.

Btw - if it’s your birthday you eat for free! This is Julie’s third birthday this year. Joe’s will occasionally have a free day where the public eats for free until they run out of food. Who doesn’t like free? So, if you’re ever in Gilbert we strongly suggest stopping by Joe’s BBQ for some good eatin'!
